I had a wonderful time on Tim’s workshop and learnt so much about landscape photography - things that had been a mystery to me such as how to get sharp photographs, use of focal point, how to use the histogram and get the best compositions. I learnt so many new skills and came away confident that I can take good landscapes. Tim was a very patient teacher and very kindly lent me one of his lenses when we discovered on the first day that mine was damaged. Over the three days of the workshop I was able to see a lot of the beautiful island of Skye and came home with some stunning shots. My stay a Grasmhor was wonderful too. I had a lovely spacious room that was spotlessly clean. And the meals Grace served were excellent. Thank you both for being great hosts and making me feel so at home. I highly recommend Tim’s workshop and a stay at Grasmhor
Just wanted to say thank you. You and Grace are perfect hosts and I can see why you operate a successful B&B. Lovely room, comfortable bed and good food.
I asked you to guide me around some of the best spots in Skye and you didn’t disappoint – in fact, you went above and beyond what I asked for and you graciously helped me when required and willingly provided tips and advice. If I was to pick just two things from my time with you it would be continue to work on composition and use of the histogram when shooting. I’ve only just complete transferring all my photos onto my desktop and I’m looking forward to working my way through them over the coming weeks.
Such an enjoyable time spent on beautiful Skye, the island is stunning, I would happily have spent my days there just looking at the fantastic views on offer! But I got more, I have in my possession a reminder of every view from all the many vantage points we were taken to….on my computer, with my favourites ready to be printed and displayed on the walls of my home.
I am a novice photographer, although I was fairly used to the controls of my camera I learned so much, little things that made such a difference to the quality of the shots I was recording. Tim’s knowledge of the best locations for taking photographs is first class, his help in setting up the shots, what settings to use, what lens to use, provided me with some first-class images as a reminder of the three days I spent on the island. I’ve learned so much about photo composition in those few days.
As Tim guided me to the best spots for taking my shots, he had huge consideration as to my fitness and didn’t ask me to go anywhere I wasn’t comfortable with. We visited many locations in those few days, zooming about the island, even over to the mainland on occasions to catch the best weather, we visited the best spots for sunrise, sunset and everything in between.
Unfortunately, it was necessary to sleep some of the time, I would have loved to have stayed up all night learning about editing my photos to make them even better! But sleep I needed and for that the accommodation was first class. Tim and Grace’s home at Grasmhor B&B is lovely, I had a delightful en suite room with a very comfortable bed. Our party was catered for by Tim & Grace, with Grace cooking us a delicious three course meal every evening…after sunset (it was October so reasonably early sunsets and quite nicely later sunrises!)
Over the three days and four nights I stayed with Tim and Grace, all my meals, packed lunches and snacks were provided, nothing was too much trouble for either of them both the perfect hosts! I had a lovely holiday, greatly increased my knowledge of photography and I’m very proud of my photographs.
What a wonderful workshop. I enjoyed every minute. It was great to see so much of Skye. Tuition excellent. I learned a huge amount about how to use my camera and about landscape photography while visiting the many different locations. Immaculate and comfortable accommodation and superb meals. Am looking forward to doing another workshop with you in the future to further improve my skills. Thank you Tim and Grace.
Thank you Tim for showing us around the beautiful Isle of Skye and giving us so much help with our photography. We learnt many things during our three days with you, including how to set up our cameras to get the best results, how to use our eyes and feet to get the best position possible and also how to achieve the correct exposure for our photos. I will always keep your advice on composition in mind when setting up my camera and will also try not to just take “snaps”! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your comfortable and warm home and the excellent food provided by Grace.
Over the last 6 weeks I have been able to visit Skye on a couple of occasions (how lucky am I?).
Before my first visit I searched online for someone who was available to provide landscape photography guidance on a one-to-one basis. I happened upon Tim Wilcock, quite by chance, read his testimonials, saw what tuition he provided and booked him for a full day.
I had hoped to live in my camper van but all the sites were still closed for their winter break.
I was fortunate I was able to book three days B & B with Tim and his lovely wife, Grace. Their facilities are superb, the en suite bedroom spacious and impeccably clean. Breakfasts were worthy of their own glowing testimonial, just make sure you have a portion of their wonderful black pudding on your plate! Tim and Grace were always around (not in an intrusive way) in case there was anything you needed.
The landscape tuition day was everything I wanted: Tim has a great knowledge of the subject and of the best spots to go to on the island for capturing memorable photographs. He is very relaxed and easy company, nothing being too much trouble for him. He does not even take a camera with him - in order to give his pupil his fullest attention. I have the impression Tim enjoys the day as much as his pupils, evidenced by the fact we ran a good bit over time without so much as a comment from from him.
My second session with Tim was two weeks ago. This time the campsites were open which meant I missed out on black puddings but allowed me to stay in 4 or 5 different spots around the island. I had had a little taster of Lightroom techniques during my first stay and wanted more so I booked Tim for a couple of hours Lightroom introduction. I had never used that software before, always sticking just with Camera Raw/Photoshop. Since this session I have used Lightroom exclusively and I enjoyed its simplicity and flexibility.
So, what are you waiting for? If you are thinking about a spot of tuition, look no more, contact Tim.
He will generally be able to tailor his courses to suit all photographic needs.
I hope to see you again before the year’s out.
I was on Tim's course in March 2016 and loved every minute. I had a basic knowledge of SLR photography prior but there were still several 'cloudy' areas in my knowledge and understanding. Tim had such a clear and patient way of explaining everything - from the basic manual controls to 'setting up the shot', use of filters, composition, editing...(the list could go on), it was like a cloud lifted and everything became clear. Despite the changeable weather we had ample opportunities to put into practice what we had learnt. We also saw a huge amount of Skye and crammed so much into the available time right from pre-dawn to post-dusk, all the while Tim accompanying and helping us. We got to practice in all light levels and with a wide variety of subjects. Tim, Grace and Brenna the spaniel were also excellent hosts, the rooms were very comfy (and immaculately clean!) and the food delicious. All in all the whole course I felt was really excellent value for money. Highly recommended!
I enjoyed excellent 1-2-1 landscape photography tuition with Tim. With clear instructions he encouraged me to experiment with lenses, settings and filters to achieve some wonderful images and suggested a consistent workflow. He took me to local beauty spots which I wouldn't have found on my own and at the end of the session we reviewed the results. He emailed the following day to check that I was happy with the images.
I've no hesitation in recommending Tim's services particularly to those photographers wanting to improve their landscape photography.
Tim I just wanted to thank you for the fantastic day Paul and I spent with you on my course on Monday 9 May. I had an amazing time and learnedso much from you, I only hope I can remember it all! Your teaching manner made me feel very much at ease. I thought I was fairly up to speed with certain aspects of my camera and photography but I quickly realised that I was falling very short of my own expectations.
Thank you for your patience and hopefully the next time we are on the beautiful Island we can catch up for another course."
As a Skye Photographer running a business on Skye and enjoying taking clients around this wonderful island to add to their own Landscape Photography I rely on feedback, one avenue of which are these testimonials. A big thank you to all who have contributed so far and hopefully there is more to come.
Hello Tim. I wanted to thank you for the wonderful afternoon we spent with you last week. You not only shared with me some of your favorite spots, which in itself would have been enough, but you instilled in me a whole new philosophy of picture taking. I shot the rest of the trip, where appropriate, using it with great results. Now if I could just drive on the left side of the road like you do!
I highly recommend Tim Wilcock as a photographic guide/instructor! In just one day, my companions and I learned and saw so much of the Isle of Skye, which included several remote scenic areas that we could not have found on our own. Although the weather was not ideal and Tim gave us the option of re-scheduling, we decided to go ahead, and I am glad that we did. His photography is spectacular and he openly shared many of his techniques and approach to landscape photography. We discussed pros and cons of equipment and while in the field, he suggested vantage points. At the end of the day, he reviewed my photos and gave helpful comments, especially regarding perspective. He is a wonderful guide and he has a great sense of humor that kept us in good spirits, despite the intermittent rain. Tim’s knowledge of the terrain is amazing and we learned so much of the geography that we were able to successfully navigate on our own to several scenic areas during the remainder of our stay. I plan to return to the Isle of Skye and when I do, I will most certainly schedule another session with Tim.
Tim's keen eye for detail, his perfectionist attitude and quick grasp of any given landscape is what makes him a fantastic photography tutor. After briefing us on technique, he let us take full ownership of our photographs while advising us on how each shot can be perfected by getting creative with different compositions and filters. He also has a beautiful Bed and Breakfast where guests can retire at the end of the day. He takes extra steps to make the entire experience comfortable, enjoyable and enriching. I wish him all the best and hope he continues to create many more happy photographers.

Tim is a superb guide, both in his skilled and articulate photography instruction, and in his vast local knowledge of vantage points for photographic opportunities. He led our group through a fun, memorable afternoon and evening, and gave each member of our group new skills we will be able to use for years to come.
Tim Wilcock is a talented photographer and an equally talented teacher. He proved to be fantastic at teaching on all levels. We had a group of 3 adult students and 1 auditor, all with different levels of ability and a range of equipment from film to digital SLR. In one day we visited five exquisite sites around the Isle of Skye. In addition to being a knowledgeable and entertaining tour guide, Tim was able to clearly explain the technical and artistic aspects of photographic composition, and led us through the process of setting up a shot. Before heading outside, we viewed Tim’s photographs while he described his creative process. His technical skill, natural ability, and sheer passion for photography is truly inspiring. As the inexperienced auditor in the group, I feel that even my photos following our session with Tim improved dramatically!
I was fortunate enough to photograph Isle of Skye with Tim for two days this summer. It was truly wonderful to meet someone so passionate about his work and about this marvelous place, which really shined through in his work. Tim is not only a great photographer, but an excellent guide as well. With knowledge of the best photo spots Skye has to offer, the workshop really was an overall learning experience. Photographically, Tim helped me see my photography weaknesess that I would have otherwise missed. Not only did we witness incredible lanscapes, but Tim helped me capture them — and capture them well. From now on, I’ll use many of the techniques Tim taught me.Your ears must surely have been ringing because I have bragged about you and your work to many, and will certainly refer you to anyone I know of that might be traveling to Skye. Thanks, Tim! I hope to see you again soon.
After searching for some time for a suitable photography tour leader on the Isle of Skye I came across Tim's site. I booked and visited for three days in March of this year. Tim was an excellent guide, mentor and, along with his wife Grace, an excellent host in their lovely B&B, Grasmhor. Tim is a very knowledgeable and accomplished photographer and gave me some great guidance in improving my camera craft and composition. Despite the weather we were up early every day and visited some of the fantastic locations that Skye has to offer. Our persistence was rewarded on the third day with a fantastic sunrise after climbing the Old Man of Storr in the dark. This photo is being printed onto a large canvas to take pride of place in our dining room. I also captured many great monochrome images during the time, and this has extended and improved my portfolio considerably. Many thanks again for an enjoyable, entertaining and informative time. I’m busy working on gaining enough Brownie points for another trip later in the year.
